Erin H. Graf, PhD, D(ABMM)

Erin H. Graf, PhD, D(ABMM) is an Associate Professor and Co-Director of Microbiology at the Mayo Clinic Arizona.  She was formerly the Director of the Infectious Disease Diagnostics Laboratory at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Graf completed her PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology at The University of Pennsylvania studying HIV latency.  She then went on to complete an ASM-accredited postdoctoral training program in medical and public health microbiology at ARUP Laboratories and the University of Utah.  Dr. Graf is board-certified in medical microbiology.  Her research interests include the applications of next-generation sequencing and metagenomics for diagnostic and epidemiologic investigations, as well as emerging rapid diagnostic technologies paired with diagnostic stewardship.

Rami Mafouz, MD, MPH

Rami Mafouz, MD, MPH, earned his medical degree from the American University of Beirut followed by a Clinical Pathology residency and a Fellowship in Molecular Pathology at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee focusing on HLA and molecular diagnostics with special expertise in microarrays and next generation sequencing technology. He is currently a Tenured Professor and Head of the Division of Clinical Pathology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at AUBMC and the Director of the Histocompatibility and Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, Director of the Residency Training Program, CO-Director of the Pillar Genomics Laboratory and Chairman of the Biomedical Institutional Review Board. He is a member of several international and professional societies including the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI), and the American Association of Molecular Pathologists (AMP) where he is serving as the Chairman of its International Affairs Committee. His major research interests include Natural killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIR) genotyping, HLA associations, and cancer profiling. He has more than 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals and serves as Associate and Executive editor of several international journals including GENE and FRONTIERS.

Federico Monzon

Federico A. Monzon is a molecular pathologist with extensive experience translating novel genomic technologies into clinical molecular tests, including leading studies on prostate and renal cancer genomics and the validation of one of the first FDA-cleared gene expression clinical assays for the diagnosis of tumors of unknown origin while at the University of Pittsburgh and Houston Methodist Hospital. At Invitae and Baylor Genetics laboratories, he pioneered the use of panel testing for hereditary cancers as well as cancer exome sequencing.

Dr. Monzon is a consultant on medical and scientific strategy for companies in the diagnostic space. Currently, he is Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at Delphi Diagnostics, a laboratory focused on providing genomic tools for the management of breast cancer patients. Prior to that, he served as CMP for Castle Diagnostics and served as Medical Director of Oncology and Medical Director for Latin America at Invitae Corporation. Previously, Dr. Monzon served as Director of Pathology at the Cancer Genetics Laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine. He earned his M.D. from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and is board-certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic, clinical and molecular genetic pathology. Dr Monzon was the 2017 President of the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) and continues to be engaged in AMP and other professional societies to shape the future of clinical genomic medicine.

Pawel Mroz

Dr. Pawel Mroz, M.D., Ph.D. is a Physician, a Scientist, a Pathologist and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Minnesota and a member of the department’s Division of Molecular Pathology and Genomics. Dr. Mroz is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with subspecialty expertise in hematopathology and molecular genetic pathology and he is actively involved in patient care by providing molecular diagnoses for patients that seek care at MHealth Fairview facilities. Dr. Mroz also serves as a Medical Director for MHealth Fairview Hematology Core Laboratories.

Dr. Mroz received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the Medical University of Warsaw, Poland followed by postdoctoral fellowship and Instructor appointment at Wellman Center for Photomedicne, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston. He completed residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the Department of Pathology, Northwestern University in Chicago, IL, and a fellowship training in Hematopathology and Molecular Genetic Pathology at the Department of Pathology, University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI.

Dr Mroz current research interests are focused on detection of minimal residual disease in hematologic malignancies by highly sensitive droplet digital PGC and Next Generation Sequencing technologies as well as development implementation of clinical grade pharmacogenomic testing.

Dr. Mroz has received several grants and awards and co-authored many scientific manuscripts, books and book chapters.

Annette Leon

Dr. Annette Leon is a Medical Geneticist board certified by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics and a Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics. With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Leon has delivered optimized products and scalable diagnostic solutions to improve access and utilization of genomic medicine for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of genetic disorders. Dr. Leon is also a contributor to clinical guidelines from professional organizations (ACMG, AMP, CAP, CLSI), and currently serves as the Chair of Informatics for AMP. Dr. Leon completed her Clinical Molecular Genetics and Clinical Cytogenetics fellowships at Harvard Medical School. She also received a Ph.D. in BioPhysics and Computational Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana, and a MS degree in Biotechnology from Havana University.

Tejus Bale

Tejus A. Bale is a board-certified anatomic pathologist, neuropathologist, and molecular genetic pathologist.
A native New Yorker, she studied Biochemistry and Dance at State University of New York, Stony Brook before going on to earn her MD and PhD at the School of Medicine. This sparked her continued fascination with the brain ultimately leading to residency and fellowship Neuropathology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA, followed by a fellowship in Molecular Genetic Pathology at Harvard Medical School.
Since 2017, she attends on both the Neuropathology and Diagnostic Molecular Pathology services at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York. She has helped lead the clinical validation efforts for several novel assays; her research involves demonstrating the feasibility and clinical utility of widespread clinical implementation of these tests, which dovetails with additional interests in examining the use of molecular and cytogenetic data to improve diagnostic and prognostic accuracy in adult and pediatric brain tumors.
She is particularly passionate about the future of Pathology, and serves as the Director of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Advocacy (IDEA) in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at MSK, as well as on several departmental, hospital and national committees.
